French and Gloria Estefan?

I woke up the other morning singing this song:

"Alouette, gentille Alouette
Alouette, gentille plumerai....."

It made me laugh and also confused me, because I don't remember knowing as many lyrics to that song as I  woke up singing.

I think I've solved the mystery though. I fell asleep with the television on and I think Target is to blame for my French singing:

The next day I woke up singing a Gloria Estefan song:

"One, two, three, four...come baby say you love me
five, six, seven times"

I have no idea where that came from. But I think Ellen Degeneres would have my back:

Dear Left Hand:

Dear Left Hand,

I'm so, so, so sorry! I know that I have put you through so much pain with my decision to learn to play the guitar. If it's any consolation, the worst is over.

So about a month ago, I decided that I would buy a guitar (or geeeetar, which is how I say it in my head) and learn to play it. If anyone reading this has ever tried to play the geeeetar, they know that it's a painful instrument. Holding down those steel strings really does a number on one's fingers.

During my first week'ish of playing, I almost quit because my fingertips on my left hand were in so much freaking pain! I didn't think I could do it but THEN God's (or someone's) brilliant design of the human body kicked in. My fingers were all: "HEY! JEN! You're KILLING us; so we have decided that we are going to man-up and grow callouses so that we can handle this abuse."  And that they did!

I don't even recognize my left hand anymore. I have these crazy looking, permanent guitar string impressions on them and they feel like sandpaper!

I have lost all sensation in the fingertips of my pointer, middle and ring finger on my left hand. What's funny to me as I write about this, is that it sounds way worse than it looks. Callouses are thoughtful, generous and considerate. By that I mean that they showed up when I needed them most and they are protecting my hands, but at the same time, they don't make my hands look as gnarly as I'm making it sound. SO...good job on the smart and well designed callous-thingy Mr. or Miss Human Body Designer (whoever you are).

Writing this blog post was perfect because I was reminded today that I haven't written in ages AND I got to give my left hand a break from guitar practice to write a post. WIN/WIN for sure.

Blogging is funny to me because I have found that I only blog when I'm bored—which is when I have nothing interesting to blog about—but when I have a lot of interesting things going on, I'm too entertained to bother writing.

Anyhow, I'm blogging now because I'm bored and so many things have happened since my last entry!

1. My best friends and favorite two people of all time came to visit me
2. I had an amazing set at Comedy Works
3. I started taking djembe drum lessons
4. Got into a stupid car accident (they aren't all good things)
5. Built a fire in my new house's fireplace for the first time
6. Went back to Atlanta and saw Gramps and the fam
7. Adopted two new baby kittens for the Luna family
8. Switched shampoo/conditioner brands (ok, this isn't interesting or exciting, but it did happen)
9. Shoveled snow from my driveway for the first time (see #8)

All of these things deserve their own entry but I'm playing catch-up so this will have to do for now!

Weirdest Dream Ever

I am not very clear on the sequence of each of these elements of my dream last night, so I am going to do the best I can based off the order I think everything occurred.

The first thing I remember is walking to a Jason Mraz concert in a park with my sister Karla. For some reason our tickets were on the stage, which initially made me nervous because the stage looked too tall for me to hop onto (don't know why we didn't just take the stairs). So as the show started we were just lying there on either side of the stage during the performance. Karla yelled at me at one point because I started to doze off on the stage. I was enjoying the show, I was just really sleepy. Then there were technical difficulties and he couldn't finish the show so we left to go meet our mom.

When we left we wanted to go different ways threw the park, so we raced each other back to where Sally was. I can't remember who won, but it did start to rain so we drove back to Karla's apartment (no idea what city or where we were at this point).

Next thing I remember was being in Vegas watching a wrestling match, but the match was between two teams of wrestlers (they still wrestled one at a time in the ring though). One team was made up of WWF guys and the other was made up of "real wrestlers" (I don't know what "real wrestlers" are but they don't fake wrestle, apparently). At one point the "real wrestler" made a real move on the WWF guy and got disqualified because the WWF guy got for real hurt.

Next thing I remember is being in my hotel room and wanting to see if I could climb down from my balcony to the room below us. I did it, barely, but then couldn't get back up so I went into the room below mine and made friends with them. It was a big fat guy in his early twenties and his mom staying there (she wasn't there at the time though). He was very nice and I made us sweet tea vodkas and we watched football for a little while. Then I left to go to my room and got lost on the way and had to come back to his room. When I got back he was gone but had left a note saying to make myself at home (I guess he knew I'd be back).

My friend EJ then texted me to meet her and her mother (who was actually my friend Billy's mom, Peg) at their room, so I did, and when I got there, they were singing and dancing to Mary Poppins in the living room. I stayed for a bit but then went back to my "new" room. EJ texted me to go meet them for dinner and sent me a picture message from the restaurant. In the picture she looked like herself except she had big poofy mom hair.

I got lost again trying to find them because the restaurant had 400 floors or "sections", it was huge and confusing. It all looked like a gigantic mall and I ended up at a Super Wal-Mart.

That's as much as I remember now, I'll add to this as things come to me throughout the day.

Cher Face

This morning I kept asking my kitten Cher:
"Why are you such a Cher-face? Huh Cher? Why do you have such a tiny little Cher-face?"
She didn't answer me, she just looked at me like:
"I don't know Jenny, I just don't know why I'm such a Cher-face, but I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I find out why."
This morning made me realize that I need to stop talking to the cats so much, I'm turning legit crazy. Even they look at me like I'm crazy.

Such a Cher-Face!

Truce

Dear Monday,

I don't know if you did this on purpose or not, but today you weren't such an asshole. I had a really good day, wasn't tired from the weekend and really had a productive day. All this means is that it is time for us to call a truce...for now....

I know how you are and I know you'll be back next week with a vengeance.  That said, I'm going to enjoy this week and hope you feel obliged to throw a few more happy Mondays my way on a consistent basis.
